Jeff DeBoer

This entry is part 32 of 40 in the series Outlook 2019

Senior Manager, Topcon Positioning Systems

California, USA

New and emerging technologies, workflow enhancements, and backend solutions for AEC evolve rapidly, and implementing radical change can be a risky proposition for enterprises both large and small. Solution providers form teams of highly skilled professionals who can “parachute in” to help out, advise, and often develop new methods and practices that can aid others who follow. Jeff DeBoer of Topcon Positioning Systems has become an internationally respected “parachute guy.”

DeBoer received multiple nominations from peers and customers; one co-worker noted, “He’s instrumental in providing support and training for Topcon end-users, and especially with regards to how to implement mobile mapping solutions into their end-to-end workflows. He has a strong focus and the dedication to answer all their questions and make them productive and successful.”

DeBoer studied surveying engineering at Pennsylvania State University, in the renowned program headed at the time by Dr. Charles Ghilani (noted surveying textbook author and xyHt columnist). During a factory visit to the Topcon Positioning Systems facilities in Livermore, California, we asked DeBoer what he does when he’s not working in his lab or helping customers. He responded that his work is his hobby—that working with UAS, remote sensing, and customers who have amazing real-world projects to support is as cool a hobby as he could hope for—and his customers could not agree more.
